Zane is going back to The Children’s Hospital in the spring. Normally, we try to limit our visits to Denver to once or twice a year. We have been very fortunate with Zane’s health and have not needed to see too many specialists out of town since he’s been born. This time around, he has quite a few things going on. I am working with a nurse from the health department to coordinate his appointments. I have tried to do it myself in the past with little luck. So come the end of March or beginning of April (after the SW Destination ImagiNation tournament is over), we will make the seven-hour drive again. On his menu:
• Anesthesiology (to make sure there are no problems with sedation due his 2007 coding where his O2 sats dropped to 26).
• A sedated DMSA scan of his kidneys to check for scarring.
• Under sedation, he will also have an ABR (auditory brainstem response test) for hearing and a deep dental cleaning.
• Consultation with the surgeon who will correct his ptosis.
• Follow up with the urologist to go over the results of the DMSA scan.
The pediatrician wanted us to visit the Special Care clinic and the Developmental Clinic, as well. But I think the other appointments will already tax me with information and running around.
We’ll return to Denver again in the summer for surgery. Definitely for the ptosis and perhaps for kidney surgery to repair his reflux.
We’re not sure if we’ll have to see a gastroenterologist at some point. Zane has been gagging quite a bit lately, which is obviously caused by his stomach reflux. His pediatrician is attempting to find the source of the problem, which only began after with returned from Denver in November with a whole host of new things to put into his stomach. God bless the nutrition department for wanting to put weight on Zane, but sometimes they do not consider the big picture.
