Just before Zane’s third birthday, we thought he had a
diaphragmatic hernia. The pediatric cardio thoracic surgeons in Denver stated they would
not perform corrective surgery on him. It was a very stressful time. Fortunately,
we discovered he did not have the diagnosis after all, and a huge weight was
lifted.
Zane’s third year was also the year of the Elton John
glasses (won’t post that pic today). And he started preschool, which was a huge
letting-go step for me. Although the teachers, his aide, and his therapists
would likely say I didn’t let go until his second year.
His bright, beautiful smile lifts me up even on the darkest of days.
